I’m about to start editing HDV footage, and would like any advice on the best way to edit and export HDV footage for the best quality on FCP, and advantages and disadvantages to different compression codecs, native HDV, or other formats. the more specific to my generic question the better. I’m brand new to the HDV format and need a nice education here. thanks.

There are a great deal of postings right here on Creative Cow regarding this very issue – most people advise to get out of HDV as soon as you can, and Apple Pro Res 422 is what a lot of people recommend capturing to and editing. Alternatively, you could capture native HDV and render using Pro Res (this is done through your FCP settings).
