please reccomend a tutorial
I’m taking an independent study class and need to use FCP to edit video. However, I’m having the hardest time with importing/uploading video to the computer, nnd being able to call the video back up when I try to edit. I’d successfuly uploaded a video the fist time b/c someone did it for me, but I never saved it that time… and so I’ve tried and failed at uploading and saving the video twice this week. I’m going to try again Friday, even tho I accidently chopped off the first minute of the video. I have no idea what I’m doing, so I need someone to reccomend the slowest, easiest, most basic FCP tutorial video and/or text instructions with screencaps.

There are many good tutorial books and DVDs. I’ve written a few of them myself. I’d really suggest you look at what’s available, whichever instruction you prefer, paper, DVD, or better still in person from an Apple certified instructor, before you get your material into serious trouble. Take a little time to learn efficient ways of working with the application before you get frustrated or damage your project.

I believe there’s still a basic tutorial that comes with every FCP system. That’s a great starting point. Very simple and gets you into editing in about an hour or so.

Kristina,
The correct terminology is either “capturing” or “digitizing.” “Uploading” is an Internet term for sending a file to another person or computer, and “importing” is bringing a video or other file into an app after its been previously captured. If you know these terms you can search for them in the FCP online manual and find the answers to all of your problems.

I found the video tutorials at lynda.com very useful. You pay like 25 bucks for full access for a month. There is a Final Cut Pro section with lots of instructional video. You can keep the video up while you duplicate actions on your computer; pausing it when you need to.
