Recomendations on a camera for podcast.
A client has asked my opinion on what camera they should buy to do simple video podcast.
I think a simple SD camera that records to mini-DV would fit the bill. It also would need to work with a lav mic.
Any thoughts. Price range is under a $1000

I think the Thompson Viper would do nicely.
Okay, perhaps thats overkill. If the client wants 4×3 DV for under $1000 then take a peek at a used Sony trv950 on Ebay. They are real workhorses and great DV cameras. With a beachtek mic adapter you can use any pro mic with XLRs.

BTW, I’ll bet that a Podcast shot on a Viper does look appreciably better than one shot on a DV camcorder.
