How to do this?
Posted by Kent Beeson on March 31, 2008 at 5:55 pmHi
If you go to https://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1386354258?bctid=1134198049
was wondering how to do similar with live/moving screen shots with mouse moves and moving them at angles like this.
I do have Motion 3 but haven’t yet used it, need training. What software is used for moving screen capture?
Thanks
K

March 31, 2008 at 6:17 pmTo capture the actual computer screen with the mouse moves, you would use a program like Snapz Pro. Once you have the quicktime you can bring that in to Motion and achieve that the 3D effect by adding a camera and key framing its position to get the look you want.

March 31, 2008 at 8:18 pmActually, how does Snapz compare with Cmatasia? I take it Camt has more choices re: file format and Snapz is only mov?
Thanks

March 31, 2008 at 8:26 pmCamtasia does give you a broader control over file formats and compressions, I believe. As far as I know it is PC only (forgive me if I am wrong). I have used both Camtasia (on a PC) and snapz on my mac, other than the nitty gritty guts of the programs I noticed there to be no big difference. I am not a big screen grab/capture tool user though, I just wanted to point you in the direction of tools that I knew of, if you have access to a PC and a Mac, give them a try and see which one you like better.

March 31, 2008 at 8:30 pmThanks for input – I just downloaded Snapz Pro and will probably buy it…I take it I would just record whatever I need, take that into FCP and/or Motion.
But man the file is heavy GB’s for even under a 2 min screen capture…I guess one would just record in chunks, ie, just screen record your actions up to a 1:30 then cut and do another section?

March 31, 2008 at 9:57 pmi was using files from a Snaps Pro screen cap the other day and cold not get them to edit in FCP as they would always show up as 10fps, no matter what I tried to do to convert them.
Try iShowU or ScreenFlow (leopard only)
