  • How do I use a master template transition?

Posted by Luis Ortega on March 30, 2008 at 2:03 pm

I found something called master templates in FCP 6 and read up on them in the manual but I still can’t figure out how to use them.
I was trying to apply a master template glass pane transition between two clips on my timeline but I can’t get it to work.
Can anyone please explain how to do it or direct me to a tutorial of the process on how to use master template transitions?
I suspect that it can’t be used like a normal transition and just dropped into the timeline.
    Thanks for any advice.

Drop the glass pane template on the timeline. Now double click on it to load it into the viewer. Click on the “controls” tab and you will see drop zones. Drag and drop your A-clip into the small box for Drop Zone 1 and you b-clip into every instance for Drop Zone 2. Now render.

    Wow, thanks a lot!
I followed your very clear instructions and it worked perfectly.
You should write the FCP manual.

I tried using the exact same instructions, and nothing is happening when I drag the clip over the drop zones in the viewer. Should I see the click in the drop zone? I’m using Final Cut Pro 6, educational version. Please help!
