  Timecode issues

  I’ve started a project in Premiere Pro. I’ve captured footage in Premiere and have now transfered the footage into FCP from an external drive via firewire 800. When I import the footage into FCP I lose the timecode on the clips. They all start at 00:00:00:00.

  What am I doing wrong? The footage has proper matched timecode in Premiere, but it is lost in FCP.

  I used a Sony GV-D1000 to capture the footage. I’d love to capture directly into FCP but it won’t accept the Sony deck for cature.

  Any suggestions? Is there something I’m missing here. This is the first time I’ve tried this, and I’m new to FCP.

  Open a clip up in QT player and go to Window > SHow Movie Properties and see if there is a Timecode track listed. If not then the TC is not embedded in the file like it should be.

  I don’t know how Premiere captures and stores the TC but this is a way to check to see if it is where FCP would read it.

  Is there a way that I can “make” FCP read the timecode?

  First, is the TC in the file?

  I checked it with Quicktime, and it is not listed. But I assume that it is there someplace since Premiere Pro can read it.

  That is the TC that FCP uses and as far as I know it cannot get it from someplace else. check to see if there is a way to export the files from Premiere that merges the video and TC, from however it handles it.

  Hi
  Check the clip’s auxiliary Timecode track listings in FCP.
  With Premiere 6.5 clips FCP (or that era) could see the start tape-timecode on one of the aux tracks.

  Someone on the Apple support gave me an answer that actually works. Here is what I did.

  I jumped back into Premiere and noted the time code in points for each of the clips, then I hopped back into FCP and selected a clip in the browser. Then I went up to the modify menu and selected timecode, then I entered the time code recorded in Premiere. I just did that for each clip and it worked just fine.

  Now I just have to get my Sony deck to work with FCP so I can capture directly.
