  • Color Correcting in final cut.

Hi… Im having problems sending my sequence from final cut to color. For some odd reason it keeps sending my raw footage clip instead. Even if I right click on the sequence icon and select ” Sent to color” it sends the raw footage clip! Any suggestions?

Also, when color grading in final cut, is it possible to place the color grade on an empty video track?? I dont actually want to put it directly on the clip, but the track above it… this is standard practice for me when using avid and im wondering if it is possible with final cut?

Is the FCP sequence properly prepped for Color (no gfx, no freeze frames, no stills, no speed changes… pretty much nothing but “virgin” video on V1)?

I’d highly recommend checking out Walter Biscardi’s Color tutorials.

Actually, you can have video on multiple video tracks, that’s not a problem. All the other things you mention are definitey bad.

Nope, filters have to be applied directly to the video clip.

It’s been a while since I used Avid, and I’m not sure I ever used it the way you describe… which only demonstrates that there are many workflows — even when using the same system.

But if you explain your desired result, we may be able to give you a method to get where you want to be using FCP? (likely, even more than one method)

    Good luck.

Thanks folks, you have been very helpful and I can now get my sequence into color… and what a great application that is… Walters tutorials are excellent.

And with the use of multiple tracks while color grading in avid. I just found it best to do a basic correct on the actual video and start grading from the tacks above. It allowed for greater creative freedom for dynamically changing the grade even within a clip if you should so desire. Also it was useful when isolating particular areas (highlight area over subject) with floating mattes…

But with color its not so much of an issue now, that is a great application that im sure will do all I need. 🙂

    Thanks for the help

    Best regards
