  exporting from final cut to an xdcam ex

  Hi!

  Due to a lack of possibilities to display HD-Video in good quality we would like to export finished, edited HD-material back to our XDCam PMV-EX1 to show it to costumers or for presentations in good quality. Does anybody know how that can be done?

  This is how far we got:

  There is an export function in FCP that does recognize the XD-Cam. Even with the supposedly correct sequence settings we do however not manage to get the content on the camera. The dialogue either tells us: current used file format not suported (if sequence settings are set to XDCAM EX) or allows us to use “XDCam HD” – which the camera does not support (there has not been any kind of file on the cameras disks after exporting that way – just plain emptiness).

  At SONY we have been told that with Sony Vega exporting back to the camera would pose no problem at all – is there a way to do it with FCP as well? are there any plug ins out there (I heard flip4mac has a plug in for ethernet connected XDCAMS – but only in SD?)

  PS: as what we try to do simply is showing the produced HD-content to possible customers we would also be happy on suggestions on how to actually do that WITHOUT using the camera itself – I still have not figured out on how to burn a blueray on my mac (are there any burners available yet? what would be the correct file format – or the correct container? – would that be a “HVDVD_TS” folder as DVD Studio Pro can create? or just the plain mpeg-2 file on the disk? Iunderstand that I have three possible codecs: mp-2, H.264 or VC-1 but what exactly do I actually have to burn on a disk to make the blueray player play it?) I have also not been able to play any kind of HD video on a computers hard disk without a terrible jitter and great performance issues (not even when playing HDV 1080i on a mac pro quad core, outputting on an epson beamer via DVI/HDMI – but maybe that has to do with the communication between the mac and the beamer).

  I’m quite new to anything that has to do with HD – so I guess I’m having too many questions at once. I’m more than happy for any help or suggestions on how to watch and play HD Material though as I have not yet been able to figure out any of this on my own by now.

  Hi Manuel,
  I think that you can do that with the “Sony Clip Browser” not with the “Transfer plugin”.
  I haven’t tried but I know there is not problem.
  If you have question with the EX-1 you should visit the “Sony Cinelta” forum, here in the Cow.
