I’ll be in the middle of a capture than after about 5 minutes it will stop with a message that the source tape has dropped frames.

It’s not just done this on one tape this has happened several times.

The video source is not in the bin after that message happens so I do a search for it on my hard drives.

It’s there when I search for it with the name I gave it in the capture.

But it has a -av label on the end of it.

So I highlight it, delete the -av off the title, and now it has the original name I gave it in the capture.

I then just drag it into my bin from the hard drive.

I play it and it plays and sounds just fine.

Has anything like this happened to anybody here, and if so what did you do to stop it?

    Thanks,
    Vinnie

The AV signifies a file that hasn’t finished capturing properly, most likely because you’ve exceeded tjhe file size limitation of FAT32. Check to see if the hard drive you’re capturing to properly formated MAC Extended, or if its FAT32? Check uisng Apple Disk Utility. If it is FAT32, move all files to another drive temporaily and format the drive as MAC Extended and that should fix the problem.

Yeah, the -av extension points to what David suggested. I’m just struck by the 5 min thing. That sounds like what happens if you are running FCP 4.5 and Quicktime 7.4…after 5 min capture bombs out. You don’t happen to have FCP 4.5 do you? QUicktime 7.4?
