    The hard disc camera has a nice black. I adjusted the white and added slight saturation because it was bland compared to the DV cam. The hard disc cam is a little blown out, with some glowing color artifacts I can live with. Now the DV cam, on a tripod in the back of the room, looks more bland. The image is sharp without some of the streaking look of the other cam, but this makes it look relatively “lifeless” if that makes any sense. The black (that should appear mostly solid) looks more noisy gray than the hard disc cam. Are there FCP tricks for getting that grainy black more solid and dark?

    Brad,

    Joe’s Noise Reducer may help, but you can also try adjusting the levels to darken your blacks, just watch your scopes.

    I think Nattress Big Box of Tricks has a noise reduction filter as well.
