  • HDV difference with firewire 400/800?

    Hello,
It’s my first time working with the HDV format so please forgive me if this question is incredibly basic!

Is there a difference in HDV image quality when capturing with Firewire 400 vs 800?

I’m capturing into FCP 6.0 from a Sony V1U HDV camera. I’ve been using a Firewire 400 cable but I’m wondering if there is a considerable advantage to using Firewire 800 instead? I want to make sure that I’m not compromising any image quality with the 400.

    thanks for the help.

The only difference is throughput speed. Using firewire 800 will give you more realtime performance during editing and faster file tranfer speeds, but the quality of the video captured is not affected by firewire speed.

    NO

I don’t know that ANY camera gives the option of FW 800 out, but it wouldn’t make any difference anyway.

    Have a wonderful day.
