uncompressed QT does not playback on other machines
I have exported from FCP 6.0.2 an uncompressed 10bit file as requested by a client. It is a minute long and 1.5GB.
The file plays back fine on my MBP but wont play back on the client’s mac. I have also tried on a friend’s imac G3 with quicktime 7.4 which is what i have, and still no go.
The file has an FCP icon, but it is a .mov file and if i change it to open with quicktime the icon changes, so that being just a default setting my end i don’t think should cause any probs.
does this have anything to do with the quicktime 7.4 issues i have been hearing about.. ?
does anyone have any similar experience or suggestions?
Any help is appreciated as i am already up against the deadline for delivery.

Is it perhaps not a self-contained movie, that is, could it be missing part of the media it needs to play on the remote machine? The media does exist on your machine, which explains why it works for you but not for the other.
Did you check the “Make Self-Contained” box when you exported? Just a first guess.

you are absolutely right.. I did not have the box checked when I exported the file. I am used to exporting this way because of the smaller file size when using in combination with idvd, and have never had any problems before..
Your comments do make sense.. i will try again and let you know if i’ve been successful.

First of all…you cannot use a reference movie on another machine (its only a pointer to the media which lives on your drive)
Second…. you need to have FCP installed on the other machine to use the Uncompressed codec. It’s not part of the base Quicktime install and is not in Quicktime Pro either. A workaround is to install the software codec from either Blackmagic Decklink or AJA Kona on the other machine.
