  DVCAM capturing & timeline: diferent from DV NTSC?

  I shot material in DVCAM and have a DSR-11 to capture the footage into FCP 4.5
  I usually use the Easy Setup as DV NTSC 48khz, but now that I am using DVCAM I am wondering: is there a specific Capture Setup as well as Timeline/Sequence Setup to work with DVCAM material without bringing it down to DV NTSC (DV SP) quality? I will be mastering back on the DSR-11, in DVCAM.

  DVCAM and DV(25) are the same thing once captured. DVCAM uses more tape to record the same amount of info so there are less chances of have record problems. The tape is also made to a higher standard. That is why a Mini DVCAM tape will record 40 min of DVCAM or 60 min. of DV and when shot on DVCAM setting you cannot play it back in nonDVCAM decks.

  But it is transparent on capture.

  DVCAM is DV25 just as miniDV is DV25… no real difference in quality per se, however DVCAM has locked audio, and a bit more robust recording track width for video. More reliable TC too. But it’s still 4:1:1, and it’s still 720X480… same as miniDV.

  Just use the stock DV NTSC presets and you’ll get all the quality you’ve shot.
