At my new job I’ve got a lot of downtime coming up. Since I work for the government, however, and don’t have flash installed on my computer (and am unlikely to get it installed) I was wondering if there were any kind of plans to provide text versions of any of the video tutorials? Thanks for all the help.

The podcasts, as Dave suggests, are a good solution to this. You can get to them by visiting https://www.creativecow.net/podcasts

    > (and am unlikely to get it installed)< i work behind a bizarrely intrusive and stupid-secure firewall. We've got Flash, it's not a security issue in the slightest. Why don't you just download the player or install it yourself? If it's a procedural problem, fill out the paperwork and see what happens. Or call your IT geeks and ask nicely. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Yeah…I posted that kind of in a caffeine-induced, jittery haze this morning. Most of the stuff is quicktime and has been keeping me entertained. As far as installing Flash on my comp? I’ve tried to download it and it won’t for some reason. It’s just as well though, there’s plenty of qt stuff. Thanks again guys!

[JoNuggs] “there’s plenty of qt stuff”

…where qt stands for Quality rather than Quicktime, doesn’t it? 😉

One thing that gets threw my head everytime I post on COW is if we could edit our messages just after we sent it. I mean, we’re in 2007 (in a Web 2.0 era), almost every forum offers the capability to edit the user’s messages.

Anyway, cheers to COW mods. COW is awesome and I can’t think of any other word. This site has helped me a lot and still helps me – now that I’m starting to learn scripts on Dan’s web site.

    Thanks for reading.

One of the ways over the years that we have kept the COW as high a signal level as we have, is that we have not allowed users to edit or remove their posts. There is a clear reason for this: In far too many sites that we have seen which allow users to edit themselves, there are always the ones who make big claims or said idiot things and when they get called on it, they edit it out and leave the follow-up replies looking out of context and quite unfounded.

We like responsibility, it’s a good thing and so while we do have edit ability on the drawing board and have been working on adding it soon, it will come in a limited version that only allows users to edit in the first 20 minutes or so or until someone replies. Then it’s locked and can’t be edited.

We give people a way to preview their posts and see them before posting and so it’s not been a huge priority for us.

Sorry if you think us back in the Dark Ages of the Net but we have too many jobs on the plate to give this one much of a priority.

    Hello Joe,

I am sorry to disagree with you but there is no such thing as a “caffeine-induced, jittery haze.” That is what happens, shall we say?, outside of those “caffeine moments.”
