Matrox MXO
Can someone tell me if I need this to monitor HD footage from my FCP system? Especially for color correction
I currently edit mostly Beta SP 8bit uncompressed, but I’m looking at getting into HDV or perhaps the Sony EX-1.
My current setup is a Mac Quad G-5 with an Aja OEM (works with Media 100 HDe and FCP HD.)
I have FCP 6.02. I use one 30″ cinema displayI currently monitor a composite signal to a Sony composite monitor, but the thought of the MXO is very interesting to me. Woud I be best served to buy the MXO and a 23″ Cinema Display monitor or do you have other suggestions? Thanks much.

If you have an AJA HD card, why do you need an MXO? YOu have what you need already except an HD monitor.

Depends on what you get.
There’s no reason to waste your Kona card. Take a look at Panasnoic 17″ LCD monitors. It will be comparable in price and has many more features.

look for a sony pvm series HD/SD multi-format monitor like the 14/L5 or 20/L5.
The 14″ can be found usually for $ 1,500 or less and the 20″ for around $ 4,500
I don’t trust LCD at all yet, though LCD that can be trusted retail for around $ 8000

Good luck with that. It’s possible but tough.
I won’t throw out my 20L5/1 for a while yet.

I have the apple 23″ hooked up to the Kona3’s SDI signal via the Decklink HDLink, which is an SDI to DVI. What love to know if anyone has compared this solution to the MXO, I don’t see it ever offered as a solution but if you have the card already it is a $1300 solution.
Don’t know if your card has SDI out.
