I got the new CS3 suite and tried to install it but I need to upgrade my OS system first (I am on 10.4). I am worried that if I upgrade my system for Photoshop, After Effects, etc. that my Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 won’t work (as well as my DVD Studio Pro 3.0 and Quicktime). Does anyone know if I will need to pay and upgrade these as well or if they will run on a higher operating system. Thanks for any help.

Which OS are you talking about? Do not go to 10.4.11 or QT7.3 with that version of FCP.

    All the best,

It says that I need to be on 10.49 or higher. I have heard that anything past 10.48 is terrible. I have been thinking about moving to Leopard but am not sure. What would you recommend?

It’s hard to say without knowing what Mac you’re using, but you’d probably be best served upgrading to the new FCS 2, especially if you’re thinking about upgrading to Leopard, or even if you just want to upgrade Quicktime.

Check the specs for CS3, see which version of QT it wants. If it wants a version newer than you’re currently using with FCP 4.5, then you’ll probably need to upgrade FCP.

An easy option is to install a second boot drive with Leopard, CS3 and a newer quicktime. Choose which application to boot to and you can leave the old drive untouched with 4.5.

Having a second boot drive is easy to manage. Just hold the alt key during boot up and select the drive to actually boot.
