  • multibridge pro/SDI video patch bay conflict

I just got off the phone with Black Magics phone support and we finally succeeded in making the multibridge pro digitize SDI to my new system. Apple 2 x 2.66 GHZ dualcore Xeon, 5GB paired Ram, Fiber Channel w/ Apple Xraid hooked to a Sony DVW500 Digi Beta Deck.
I have tried unsuccessfully to get SDI NTSC video. We came to the point where everything seemed correct, but didn;t get video in, we tried hooking the multibridge pro straight to the DigiBeta Deck and then image came through.
Has anybody had that problem? Is there any video patch bay proven to work with SDI and Multibridge Pro? Black MAgic support didn’t have an answer to this, they suggested posting the question here.
So, anybody has a video patch bay between your DBeta and the Multibridge PRO working SDI?
If so, what brand and model of patchbay you have?
    sincerely,

    Pablo

Any standard professiona grade video patch bay should work.

What are you using for a patch bay?

I can’t remember the brand I own but I know they are certified for 1.5Ghz of video bandwidth which is good enough for up to 4:4:4 dual link.

Setup here is Decklink HD PRo card with Canare HD SDI patchbay. Never had a problem with SDI in/out (SD or HD) from a variety of machines – DVW 500, DVW 2000, J-3, DSR 1500, HDW 500, HDW 2000, HDW 1800 JH-3 – all into FCP with no issues.

The Canare uses the tube style connector and all my cable is uber quality HD SDI thanks to so quick salvage work by a mate when the Sydney Olympics were being rapped. They were cutting up this cable and melting it down for copper. Such a waste.

hmmm. some older patchbays are not rated for sdi video or maybe its the patch cord or coax or the combination of all that. do you have a way to measure jitter in the sdi signal? the signal might just be degraded..
