    Hello,

I need to give a text file of sub-titles of a FCP project to a post-house for an online edit in Avid.

The online editor asked me to give him this text file with the in and out timecode of each sub-title.

What would be the best way of doing this? I tried exporting an EDL and a XML, and I got a whole load of other information that I need to edit out. This is very time consuming as there is 90 mins of sub-titles, and I simply don’t have the time to do it.

Is there a way where I can just export out the sub-title information? i.e. just get the text and the in and out points?

    Thanks in advance.

Try putting the subtitles in a sequence all by themselves… then export an EDL of that sequence. Each title would probably have to have the name of it’s clip changed to something the online editor can reference.

Assuming the subs are made in a FCP text generator, exporting a (sub only) sequence to XML gives you something a bit better readable (after you trashed all unwanted stuff)

Also, have a look at Spherico tools. Andreas has some conversion utils for these kind of tasks.

BUT, the Avid editor will go nuts anyways if he has to re-create them all…
