Im in the process of buying a new Macbook Pro to run final cut while im away from the office.

Im wondering if anyone has opinions on the 1920 x 1200 HD screen vs the 1680 x 1050. Ive read that the font’s are a bit small on the High def screen. That can be adjusted but how does final cut look in it? Is it easy to work on for an extended period of time?

Any other benifit’s or drawback to the HD screen?

Thanks for you input. I wish we had a mac store in Montana so I could go check it out myself!

I haven’t done any editing on a 1920×1080 MacBook Pro screen, but it really bugged me how small everything was. If you make the fonts bigger, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad and you’d just get used to it.

With the pro apps, it might be really beneficial to have the larger resolution. Seeing more tracks in FCP would be useful. Motion and Color layouts would be better too.

If my primary use was for editing, I’d probably go with the 1920×1080 resolution. If editing was secondary, I’d probably stick with the other resolution.

I’ve worked with FCP on both the 1920×1200 and 1680×1050 … for me, the HD screen wins hands down. When you’re working FCP on a single screen system any additional screen real estate is welcome.

Within FCP you might want to set the Browser Text Size to Medium or Large
In the Finder you might want to set set your View Options to larger Icon and Text sizes

Sorry, got to disagree. I have just returned from using a MBP with the hi-def screen for a 5 day job, and at the higher resolution, the GUI was horrible. Buttons too small, text too small etc. Gave me eye strain – really. Sure, you can drop the resolution, or alter some of the font sizes, but that kind of defeats the object, doesn’t it?

Bottom line, the highest resolution on a screen this size is worthless. I would get the standard def MBP and buy a 23″ cinema display, where that extra resolution can be properly used.

Ben your post came in about an hour after I bought the HD resolution. Doh! 🙂

Well I’m committed now. And it was only $100 for the upgrade so I won’t feel to bad if I have to down rez to work on it.

    Thanks for the input all
