OS X 10.5.2 – Do You Feel Lucky Punk?
After the QT7.4.1 and ProKit updates I took the plunge and upgraded to leopard (10.5.1). Everything FCP-related seems to be working OK for me on a MacPro Quad Xeon with an AJA IO.
I don’t think I want to press my luck yet with the new OS X 10.5.2 update or the iLife ’08 Support update. Anyone out there brave enough to be a guinea pig? …and report back?

I’ve taken the plunge on my MacBook ‘test system’ (not a mission critical edit system!). So far, so good. I also put in the mysterious ‘Pro Apps’ update that came out a few days ago. Neither update seems to have horribly broken anything.. though I’ve not done any exhaustive testing. Granted this is only on a black MacBook, with no capture hardware or anything, so I can’t vouch for compatibility with third party hardware, but FCP still launches and has successfully completed the few small tasks I’ve asked of it since I installed the update yesterday.

I’ve run every update possible on my laptop. No problems with anything and I’ve been using Final Cut and After Effects on it a fair amount.
It 10.5.2 also fixed a bunch of wireless problems I was having too. I was only able to connect to the internet 50% of the time with 10.5.1, but it seems perfectly fine now.
Obviously, I don’t have any 3rd party hardware on my laptop, so I can’t say it’s safe for everyone here, but I haven’t found any problems with the OS itself.

I was just wondering how many people here are running the new Studio 2 with OS Tiger 10.4.9(or later)? I’m needing to upgrade soon, but I don’t want to move to Leopard yet. Is this too risky an adventure? My system works wonderfully now, and hate to risk more than normal.* Studio 2 doesn’t really get any benefit from the Leopard upgrade right?
* Of course, I’ll be making all necessary back ups of my drives and installing first on a fresh drive with 10.4.11.

I’m doing just fine with all the latest.
I haven’t made the jump to Leopard just yet, but we are having to purchase a new system because of increased business – that’s good BUT I have heard all the nightmares with Leopard and FCP.
Oh yeah, ALWAYS clone your system drive before jumping into an update. EVERYBODY!

So far so good. I have it on a second drive and everything seems to be working, except Leopard breaks my x1900 card and tells me I am not running a Quartz Extreme supported card on the second monitor port. In software profiler.
In Tiger both ports show being Quartz Extreme supported.
Other than that all FCP apps seem to work fine in 10.5.2 on an 8-Core with 16 Gb Ram.

Turns out I have a corrupt Leopard Update Disc DVD sent by Apple. Installed 10.5.2 with a full retail version and problem of No Quartz Extreme Support went away.
