  How to slide audio sync

  I think this is pretty basic, but I havent been able to find the solution anywhere, so thanks for any help.
  Problem: audio on a continuous, single camera, approx. 4 minute long music piece, came into FCP from (gasp!) VHS original, through our Aja Kona, and is maybe 10 to 15 seconds out of sync. due probably to dropped frames on the VHS
  Question: how to mark an obvious sync point in both video and audio which will be somewhere in the middle of the tune, and then line up those two marks so the clip will then be in sync.
  Note: this would be easier than re-transferring piece by piece at this point.

  Peter,

  Just put the entire clip on a timeline. Unlink the audio and video. Find the obvious sync point in both video and audio, mark each by highlighting the respective track and hitting “M” which will put a marker on that track rather than the timeline. Now, slide one track or the other until the marks line up. Now highlight the tracks and link the audio and video back togther (that’s under modify BTW).

  David –
  Many thanks, that does the trick!
  Only remaining question (again, a simple one..) is: how to adjust the audio track by nudging it a frame or two forward or back before again locking the new sync relationship with picture. (Mouse sliding is not precise enough, and a bit clumsy)

  Unlink the audio and video, click on the audio track(s) to highlight, and hit the “,” key to move highlighted tracks 1 frame toward the head, or the “.” key to move 1 frame toward the tail.

  BTW, if you don’t have a special FCP keyboard, get one.
