I am looking for specific settings for this outcome:

I have 720P60 footage that I need downconverted to DVCPro 50 4:3 footage to ingest in a Standard Def FCP system. (but I don’t want letterbox).

I’ve tried the various presets in Compressor, but none of them crop off the sides of the 16:9 shot (which is what I want).

My results are either a 16:9 squished into a 4:3 ratio, or a 4:3 with letterbox.

Has anyone done this specific task?

Any detailed help would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Bill

Well after messing with FCP, here’s one way that seems to work. But it takes longer than doing a batch in Compressor:

In FCP make a 525i sequence
Log & Transfer the HD clip(s) I want
Drag clip(s) to Sequence (DO NOT let FCP6 change sequence settings to match clip)
In each clip settings, change size from 75% to 100%
    Export range as Quicktime movie
Import that movie into FCP 5 system.

In compressor set the crop pull down menu to 4×3 1.33:1. This will take the 4:3 center.

Sorry Matt – could you elaborate? There’s a million settings in Compressor and I’m just beginning to use it.

    Thanks!!

No worries. Highlight the setting you are using and open the inspector window. Below the description field select the geometry button second from the right. Select the crop to pull down menu and choose 4×3 1.33:1. Click save. Apply the setting to your clip(s) and submit.

In the preview window it will show you the cropped area with a red line box.
