    Hi Cowsters,

Since updating from 5.1.4 to 6.0.2 we have been having issues playing to digital betacam, for long periods of time.

Every now and again, you will get a black section on the screen (about 10 lines high) on a frame or sometimes even a full frame of black.

I am trying to diagnose the issue but am having trouble working out where to start. If anyone has had a similar issue that can give me some place to start that would be great.

No error messages or drop frame indications from final cut pro.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

SYSTEM: G5 Dual 2.3Ghz, OSX 10.4 (latest – with all application updates as of 31.1.08). Media is coming from a 4 disk striped array.

    Thanks,
    Denz

    First two questions.

What Capture Card / External box are you using?

What blackburst generator are you using and how is it connected to your Capture Card / External box and your VTR?

We are not using a sync pulse generator. Used one when on the digibeta when it was in a whole machine room. But have never had one connected to FCP and never had issues before updates.

    Using a Decklink Pro.

We run all our systems on a central blackburst generator. You really should have one if you’re running professional VTRs. FCP has a much lower tolerance for items not being in sync.

    Thanks for the help Walter!

Got it working. Not 100% sure what the solution was. But here is what I did.

    1. Updated Deckllnk drivers to 6.6.2 (which specifically mentioned issues with FCS2 and Digital Betacam).
    2. Cleaned out the array (I got a bit lazy and it was filling up).
    3. Used a second digital betacam as a reference for both the FCP and the Digi Recorder.

It seemed to then playback perfectly.

    Thanks again for responding.
