export DPX files for Smoke in correct color space
I was exporting 2k titles for a trailer for the finishing house that requested DPX files in log space. Therefore on my export i selected the Cineon file format and then the DPX option from the menu as well as the log checkbox. For some reason the post-house was unable to interpret the files correctly and when i went to see them on the Smoke machine they looked as though they do when you are looking at log color space files in after effects. The Smoke operator was applying a Log to Linear filter to the file which did virtually nothing to correct the problem. I then gave him the files rendered in linear color space and they looked fine on the smoke machine with no adjustments. Does anyone know whether or not the files i gave the post house originally would have been usable if the operator knew how to manipulate them correctly? The oporator claimed he recieves log files all the time and they don’t have any problems. Also, Does Smoke work in linear color space, or did it just interpret the linear files i gave it and then converted it to the log space the oporator claimed he was working in for the film-out. Thanks for any help you can give me!!
