Show Openers, Bumpers, Titles, etc.
Just wondering if anyone could tell me what application is being used to create the amazing graphics for the show openers and bumpers on a lot of the cable networks (Food Network, The Learning Channel, The Discovery Channel, etc.). They seem to be very 3D heavy with movement in and out of different layers. One very popular effect I’m seeing a lot of is silhouettes of growing plants and blooming flowers. Anyone know how these effects are created?

You’re in the right place, bro. Search the forum for “growing” and “vines” and maybe “blooming”. This has been covered and there’s a decent tutorial out there.

heres a link to an Open to a show package that i just finished for Biography that was completed entirely in AFX.
When you’ve had enough of making vines and 2.5d worlds, heres a sample of a more “traditional” style, using a film noir look, a bit of vfx, and some AE magic 😉

The most popular apps for motion graphics are AE and Cinema 4D. They’re not the only apps, just the most popular for broadcast graphics.

Thanks, rendernyc! The side by side was great! I’ve got AE 7 and I’ve done a tutorial via Lynda.com; however, I’m hungry to learn the kind of stuff you did for Biography. Any suggestions as to where I should go would be greatly appreciated. I’ve got most of the basics, but when you can see a CURRENT pro project created from scratch that’s the icing on the cake.
