  • Adding RAM to a New Mac Pro. Advisable to Remove Standard 2GB?

Posted by Cory Mckechnie on January 21, 2008 at 2:29 am

I’ve ordered my 8GB RAM upgrade for my new Mac Pro from OWC and am wondering if it’s advisable to simply remove the existing 2GB and simply go with the new 8GB? Or, do you think I should keep everything in and go with 10GB?
As always, thanks for any help.

Using Final Cut, right? This is pretty much it:

Jeff, so it’s pretty much take out the existing 2GB and go with 2x2GB on each riser. Seems simple enough.
    Thanks,

Keep everything in. I did for 6GB total. I did put the original 2GB in last as someone else suggested.

You could always buy 4-2GB DIMMS and 2 more 1GB DIMMS and put a pair of 2’s on each riser and a pair of 1’s on each. Totally symmetrical…12 GB total. No throwing away memory.

    Just a thought…
