  Mini DVI to S Video

  So I know that you can output to a TV using a MiniDVI to S-Video. But my question is if I did this path whether or not it would work.

  iMac w/ Final Cut Pro 5 –> MiniDVI – S-Video adapter –> Panasonic SA-HT75 DVD deck –> Monitor and 5.1 surround sound

  Now I know in theory this should work, but I was wondering if anyone has done anything like this and if then it was possible to run a video in from the DVD player (or other dixie chained decks)?

  The real question comes down to whether or not a dual core newest generation iMac’s MiniDVI output can also have information inputed?

  The mini-DVI to s-video adapter doesn’t allow Final Cut Pro to output full screen video from it as it’s not a quicktime output source the way an IO card or firewire port would be. I think it only extends the desktop or mirrors the desktop. You could put the canvas on the extended desktop and output it S-video that way, but that’s not the same thing as getting a full screen output sent from final cut.

  iMac w/ Final Cut Pro 5 –> EyeTV Hybrid USB input/output devoce –> Panasonic SA-HT75 DVD deck –> Monitor and 5.1 surround sound

  What do you mean the extended desktop? And let me ask you this, is there a way to input/output video to my DVD deck that costs less than $100? I am a student and very pressed for funds.

  Extended desktop means that it acts like a second monitor (ie more desktop space). This is different then when applications support video out through quicktime which means they can send a full screen signal out directly…

  But actually, now that I think about this, you might be able to use Final Cut’s Digital Cinema Preview and it may in fact output full screen to the S-video … you’d just have to try it.

  iMac Firewire to your camcorder. S-Video out of Camcorder into DVD recorder.

  The other options mentioned above will not give you good results.

  Will it give you better results than a normal computer monitor if I go s-video adapter to dvd deck to external monitor?
