  comet tail text reveal

  I’m looking for the best method to create a look where a comet-like object flies over some dark area illuminating otherwise unseen text as it passes, then the text fades back into transparency after the comet has moved on. Ideas?

  since no one answered yet…

  id use whatever particle effect of your choice to create the comet…

  then make a second version where you have the life of the particle be much longer than the original.

  set the 2nd version as a trk matte for your type so when the comet flies by, it reveals the type and the longer lifed particles allow the text to be seen in trail. you’d have to play with this layer to get the desired result (maybe the scale of the particles, blurring the layer, etc)
