get files from an AVID to FCS 2
I have tried to find the answer to this a few times without much luck, maybe things have changed a bit.
I do DVD authoring for a post house that edits on Avid MC. They output to DVCam and send me a tape. I capture that into FCS 2 and then use compressor and DVDSP.
We are trying to work out a tapeless work flow without much luck. I have the DNxHD codec, but a can not open the .mxf files. The next thing we are going to try is having them export a quicktime refrance movie and consolidate all the media onto a disk. Does anyone know if that will work?
Does anyone have a better solution?

I have considered that, but that is more for transferring the timeline. They even say on there site that “can” import the footage, but they recommend you recapture on the mac.
This may have changed, but I looked at there site the other day, and it didn’t look like they had any updates.

Export from Avid as quicktime with DNxHD codec. Don’t make it a reference file, rather a standalone quicktime file (reference is a tiny file that point to the media on your local drive, not what you need).
The FCP won’t be able to play it RT but you can bring it into your timeline and cut it down or whatever, then render to whatever codec you like. I do cutdowns of larger Avid projects this way. I’m audio plays back RT, just video only refreshes on the monitor when I press stop or shuttle with the TLC.
