    Hello out there!

I’m having problems with my deck not responding to the G5, getting “no communication” messages soon after plugging in the firewire 800 wire and hitting capture now, or anything. (Is it normal to have the amber light over the tape icon in the front go on when a tape is put in?)

Also… when I use my Canon XL1 to capture, there is communication, but the video I capture is jittery and speeded-up.

Wow, any ideas??!! Is it the deck, the wire, the program, me??

    Thanks in advance!

Is the source tape recorded at Sony DVCAM speed? (Canon can’t play that.)

Is the DSR11 in “DV” remote position?

    Also –
    Try looking here:

This seems to be the answer to some of these kind of problems.

    Worth a shot.

    Few things you can try:

    1. try zapping your P-RAM, (restart G5 and hold down APPLE+OPT+P+R) for 2 gongs, and then re-open FCP.

    2. Trash Preferences for FCP – use FCP Rescue

    3. Could your DSR-11 be in PAL mode? ive done this before.. make sure that your in NTSC if editing NTSC, PAL if editing PAL

    hmm… I wonder what this button does…

Let’s start with the easy stuff:
    1. Has it ever worked for you at all or is this a new problem?
    2. You should have the deck plugged in and powered up BEFORE you you start the Macintosh. (Do not ever plug or unplug FW with power on; there’s energy on two of the leads and they’re notoriously easy to short.
    3. There is a REFRESH external video devices in the View menu (um, I think so, I haven’t used FCP5 for many months now).

You shot MiniDV on the Sony, at a slower speed, and the Canon is playing it back as DVCAM, faster. Canon and Sony do not play well together even under the best conditions.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Hi:

Thanks to everyone for the help… I’m not sure what worked: the deck IS screening from the timeline onto the monitor; BUT, the log and capture function shows no communication.

It seems like the fW is working because I see something from the timeline. Why wouldn’t the Log mode not work???

(If you burn out the FW board, do only certain functions work?! That would be odd!!)

    Thanks in advance,
    Benjamin
