• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  (782×480)? Problem

  Here’s an interesting one. Recently made a FCP Quicktime movie, brought it in on a timeline and it had a big, red UNRENDERED line over it. What’s up? I looked at in Quicktime under Window / Show Movie Inspector and saw the following info: FORMAT: DV 720×480 (782×480)…
  782? What’s that about? All other FCP Quicktime movies I’ve made are consistently 640×480.
  Don’t understand how I got that number.
  Please clue me in.

  Okay, do this.

  1. Right-click on the clip and choose “Reveal In Finder”

  2. Open the media clip WITH QUICKTIME PRO (not with Final Cut)

  3. In Quicktime, under the Window menu choose “Movie Inspector” (or hit Apple-I)

  In the movie inspector, my hunch is that the correct size of 720×480 is listed to the right of “Format”. BUT to the right of “Normal” and “Current” size you’ll see your strange size of 782×480.

  Is that right? I don’t know why this happens sometimes. But if this is right, then continue with the following steps:

  4. Under the Window menu choose “Movie Properties” this time. (Or hit Apple-J.)”

  5. At the top select “Video Track” (Don’t unenable it, just select it).

  6. At the bottom you will see scaled size set to 783×480. Right? Okay, UNCHECK “Preserve Aspect”. Now enter 720×480 in that box. You’ll notice that “Display size” changes to 720×480 too. Okay?

  7. Under the file menu choose “SAVE” (or Apple-S)! Now close Quicktime and return to Final Cut Pro.

  8. You will have to import the clip anew (just reconnecting won’t work), and re-cut it into your sequence. But Final Cut will now recognize the clip with the correct size of 720×480.

  As Quicktime gets more “advanced” it gets weirder. Oh well. Enjoy. – B

  P.S. You’ll need to be using a fairly recent version of Quicktime Pro

  Thanks.
  I found in my Quicktime Export window if I recompress all frames, I seem to have more success.
