i need a stretch…
I have an animation file that is in 4:3. I need it in 16:9 format but cannot change the aspect ratio because the image has specific product logos that i cannot alter.
I cannot get the graphic remade either – the only option i have is to use what i have been given.I have seen an effect done where the left and right hand edges of a 4:3 shot have been stretched outwards to fill the 16:9 frame leaving the main body of the shot untouched.
My question is – how is this done?
I have FCP, AE, Shake and Motion so if anyone knows of a method that can be done in any of those apps i’d really appreciate it if you could give me some pointers!

thanks Andy, i’ll check em out right away.
Just been trying the Warp Mesh in AE, and that seems to be quite a flexible option for doing this kind of effect as well.

Another option which is sometimes done here in the states on the boob tube when upconverting a 4×3 image to 16×9 is to duplicate the 4×3 layer, scale the bottom layer up behind the original and blur it out. It kind of depends on your footage/graphics or if that will fly with your client types.

already tried that method Jeremy, but this time the motion/action is too close to the edge to make it a viable alternative.
I solved the problem with a combination of AE’s warp mesh and a vignette to draw attention away from the edges.

Sounds perfect. Mesh Warp’s cool, no? We used it earlier last year to make some curtains.
