    Hello,

The director I’m working for first worked on her project in iMovie and now when I bring it into FCP I get all sorts of weirness.

I brought it in to FCP by exporting it from iMovie at full quality compression. I then opened the quicktime in Final Cut, which seemed at first to work fine: her sequence and all of the clips popped up in the browser. Trouble is, whenever I play a clip in the viewer it’s jumpy and jerky. Also, whenever I edit a clip to the timeline I get a red render bar even when ‘unlimited rt’ is selected. I can’t feasibly render every time I insert a clip from the viewer into the timeline. That would take forever. Also, the jumpiness in the viewer is driving me nuts.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you,

    Ramsay

    Hi Ramsay,
iMovie use a proprietary format that have to be rendered by FC. When you capture DV through iMovie you don’t get a DV .mov, but what is called a “DV Sequence”. A different way to wrap the same video and audio information. But is not a pro format as is not TC based.
    Better to keep away.
