I want to rotoscope over a video clip to make a cartoon look (draw the outlines frame by frame). I can’t figure out how to see the video layer and trace it onto another layer so that I can discard the original video. Can this be done is AE or do I have to do it in Pshop?

you can paint right on the layer if you like, then, when you are done switch the effect to paint on transparent

    who is that masked man…

Thanks but I am missing something. I do some tracing after dbl clicking on the layer and when I hit Paint on Transparent everything goes away even in the comp window??
