importing dvd video into FCP
I have a DVD of a 5 minute music video for one of my songs. I want to capture that video off the DVD onto FCP so that i can re-lay down the song for the video. Anybody know how to import/capture a DVD for FCP??
nauturally i want full quality too. The DVD is NOT copy protected so there’s no problem there. -

Use the program called MPEG Streamclip to convert the files on the DVD into a Quicktime movie. Import the resluting QT file into FCP.

If you want full quality then you will need to get the original master because it has already been compressed so it could be put on the DVD.

Use MPEG Streamclip (free), Handbrake (free), DVDxDV, Cinematize and many others.

I gotta say I have NEVER been successful pulling video from a commercial DVD that’ll import into FCP with MacTheRipper, DVDxDV, Handbrake or Cinematize. I just tried it again with “Edward Scissorhands.” I had already trashed MacThe Ripper, but I couldn’t get the others to crack the DVD, or, if they did, FCP didn’t recognize the file format even if it played in Quicktime on my Mac.
Streamclip is now trying and is showing progress….Will it make it?! It’s working a little faster than realtime. It’s showing over 100 timecode breaks in about 26 minutes of programming in the first test DVD; a burn from MD Pub TV of a Show a friend of mine was on recently. Yep it works, but falls to the ground on Mr. Scissorhands.

Circumvention of DVD encryption can carry a penalty for first time offenders of $500,000, imprisonment for five years, or both.
I don’t think you want to post on public forums that you are attempting to circumvent DVD encryption.

thanks, is MPEG Streamclip the best program for converting the DVD movie so that there is no degradation in quality? OK, naturally the video was already compressed when it was encoded into a DVD, but i don’t want it recompressed or affected when i encode it back to a QT file. Let me know!

I checked out the links but I can’t tell which will be the best free program to use for BEST QUALITY, do u have a preference?
