  compressor issues

  When I compress my DV footage from FCP directly or from self contained files I have artifacts in my mpeg-2″s Mostly the problem is in my subjects hair ( talking heads ) it kind of “electrifies” it.

  I’m using an Imac vs10.4.1 with 3 gigs of RAM and just the system drive of 320 gigs

  Any thoughts?????

  Can I ask? Why MPEG2?

  Are you compressing for the Internet or are you making DVDs?

  Usually artifacts in MPEG2 is caused by low quality settings. MPEG2 has never been a very clean format as much as H.264. But, if you are doing this for DVD, let Compressor do your compressions using the DVD settings of your choice.

  Of course you can ask,

  I’m doing MPEG 2 because that’s what the tutorial at Lynda.com says to do for DVD production, MPEG4 for the web. I’m quite happy with those tutorials but I don’t have a lot to go on since I’m new at this game. I’ve never even heard of H264. I’m using the automatic presets in Compressor and some of my MPEG2’s look great, I’m just having an issue with three of them. My first thought was that I may have a bad media file or something but the Quicktimes look great.

  Any other thoughts???
