    Hi,

I was playing around with using the pleasantville effect in a music video I am doing (ie. lipstick, eyes or clothing are color and everything else is black and white). I am familiar with doing this using the color corrector/limit effect in FCP but I was wondering if there are any tricks to limit/mask the effect to only one part of the screen or subject.

Basically when I select the color of the girls lips or eyes fcp also selects tones in their hair or their cheeks. Other than filming more carefully and paying attention to isolate/contrast colors while shooting I was wondering if anyone had a trick to do this in post. Thanks for any help (I’m using final cut studio 2).

    Cheers

If you own FCS 2, have a closer look at Color, it offers more tools for this job. That said, it will never be easy with a recording format that is seriously degrading color information like DV or HDV.

    Regards,

    Uli
