Lighting
Posted by Mark Dannunzio on December 13, 2007 at 1:34 pmHello,
where can I find relatively inexpensive durable lighting kits for mobile “on-the-go” interviews?
Thanks
Mark

December 13, 2007 at 2:38 pmNot sure exactly how cheap these are, but they are florescent so that makes for really easy use in the field. no worries about overload circuits or creating too much heat.

Just yesterday a friend and I were discussing the concept of putting a load of fluorescent tubes into the cargo bay of a airliner… Humm!!! I’m just not sure I could ever feel really comfortable with that concept. How the heck would you pack them securely? I can’t even begin to think of a way…

They have travel cases and I’ve seen them used in the field so they must travel.

I just can’t help but invision opening the case and finding that telltale dust that was once a flourescent tube… I do like the quality of the light they produce however.
I’m looking at the newest lights using LED technology.

December 13, 2007 at 6:38 pmThe tubes aren’t as fragile as you might think. Most of the good ones are coated with a plastic shrink coating that enables them to really take a beating without exploding into a million shards of glass. And in the event that one does break, the coating contains the glass pretty well. No talent ducking the shower of glass.
We’ve beat on some Kino’s pretty badly and they can take a lot of abuse.

Keep in mind, these are not standard flourescent lights. If that was a huge problem, I don’t think they would still be selling so many units 4 years after they came out.
