So I have some footage that was loaded from a Beta PAL using an AJA Kona2. I used the 8 Bit to DV setting because the final product was going to be output to DV-PAL. I am noticing there is a slight halo around people’s heads in the loaded footage. It’s like a small area around objects are slightly lighter than the background.

It’s most noticeable in closeups and lighter scenes. Unfortunately I do not have the original tapes to see if this problem was there before.

Can’t say this is your problem or not, but I’ve noticed in FCP 6, sometimes
I load in a clip from the viewer to the sequence and I get just what you are
describing. It seems like it was DV footage as I recall. Anyway what I found out was
sometimes the clip is displaced 1 pixel up or down. Apparently FCP does this
on it’s own. I believe it’s trying to fix the picture size with it’s new
“play any clip” timeline. You can easily fix this. Double click one of your clips
in the sequence to place it in the viewer. Go to the motion tab. In the second
box next to “center” see if there is a number 1 there. If there is, make it a zero.
If there is a zero there, try putting a 1 there and see what happens.

    Let me know.

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested but no luck. I double checked and it looks like the ghosting is apparent in the source clip itself. Must be a glitch with the KONA’s uncompressed to DV conversion.
