Dropped-frames with 8-bit multi-clips. FCPS2
Hi, I’m having drop-frame problems with (3 angle) 8-bit multiclip footage in FCPS2. I’m playing the footage back from a G-RAID and haven’t had a problem doing this with DVCPRO multi-clips. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do these clips by any chance happen to be Uncompressed 8-bit?
If so, that’s your problem. Uncompressed takes some serious drive setup better than a G-RAID to perform properly. DVCPro can be edited and played off of a single firewire drive. The throughputs are very different.

Yes it’s Uncompressed 8-bit. So I’ve established the G-Raids are problamatic, but it doesn’t work properly on my internal drives on my 3 Ghz Quad. Wuts up with that?

To play 3 streams of Uncompressed 8 bit SD, you need a drive that is running at least 70 MB/sec or more. Neither your GRaid or an internal SATA drive won’t do three streams of UC 8 bit SD.

Internal HDs are used ONLY for data storage and audio files. All media should be played from external HDs.
Uncompressed video takes a huge demand on HDs, therefore, you really need a RAID housing at least four drives in order to makes this work. You could try using ProRes422 and see if you can make that work.
