  • Capturing problem from Sony J-30SDI FCP settings?

Posted by Tim Berridge on November 27, 2007 at 4:05 pm

    Hi there,

Im trying to capture footage from Digibeta to Final Cut 6 via firewire but the error message im getting once the clip has gone through the record process is “Final Cut Pro was unable to read the movie file just captured”

I usually capture from my DSR11 deck and wonder what settings I need to change if any. FCP is picking the J-30SDI up and controlling it without any problem but ‘captured’ clips show in the bin as appearing offline.

Thanks for any help on this!

    Tim

    Hi
I use a J-30SDI with FCP 5.1.4, and it functions just like my DSR-25 and DSR-11 decks – no change to a standard DV project, the J-30 is functionally identical.
Are the J-30’s menu setting appropriately set?

One point, the J-30 is sensitive to having several other FW hard drives on its channel, so its best to add a card to the Mac to give it its own channel.

Also mine fried the front FW400 port on two G5 Macs, even with powering the J-30 down before connecting/disconnecting it, so now I ALWAYS use the rear FW ports, and only connect it switched off, and power it up with the Mac powered down.
