  • Feature Request – Capturing with anntated markers on the fly

Posted by Mark Palmos on November 25, 2007 at 8:59 am

    Hello,
Having cused both Discreet Edit and Avid, I would love to have their ability to add subcips or markers with annotations on the fly without stopping the capture process.

This is particularly useful when making documetaries and capturing long tracts of interview footage. One is able to capture an entire interview, adding comments and even summarising the interview as you capture, creating a new marker, listening and typing a description while it captures, and when you create a new marker, the stuff you typed is assigned to the previous marker. As you continue capturing, you continue typing descriptions, and when you create a new marker, again, the stuff you typed is assigned to the previous marker.

This way you can capture either interviews or long montage B-Roll clips without having to stop-start all the time, and you will have proper, marked clips done while capturing instead of doubling up the time to do that again once you have finished capturing.

This is a massive time saver!
Please add this to Studio 3.
    Thank you
    Mark

    Good suggest but…

Apple has a feedback feature built into each of the software. You should use that, this is a good place to rally support and have others submit it too but you are not talking to apple here.

[msacci] “but you are not talking to apple here.”

Yes, you are. Apple has people on staff whose sole responsibility is to collect the information from all of the Apple related Cow forums. Have been for years because these forums give them some of the best feedback in the industry.

But it is also good to fill out a proper feedback form on their website, especially for a feature such as this.

    Mark,

Old-school workaround till you get your wish, get a copy of BigTime from Digital Heaven, makes it really easy to take TC notes on the fly, I do it all the time.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Mark,

That’s just Chris being fishy… He’s actually suggesting in an underhanded way that you take notes with a pad and a pen…

As you have noticed, those who don’t realize what they are missing, and who weren’t lucky enough to have that kind of timesaving feature (and several other advancements as well) ten years ago, as we did, are sometimes reluctant to acknowledge a better thing.

hey there david, yeah, it still sdrives me nuts when i think about what discreet COULD have done in the last 7 years if they had developed Edit*-Combustion… Edit was really amazing, hardly had to use the mouse at all.

as for paper and pen, ouch, i can hardly sign my name these days!

    catcha later mate
and thanks for the tip chris

    Amen brother!

I really miss this feature and have been hoping we all go tapeless so that I can get over it. But I’m not over it and I’m not tapeless.

    Preach it!
