save in fcp 5.1
Yesterday I was surprised to find that ‘Save As’ in FCP 5.1 can sometimes just make a shortcut. In my case, I saved an edit program under one name. Then later I opened it and, without making any more changes, ‘saved as’ another name, one that I thought was better. It turned out that the second save had a file size of 0 Kbyte, so it must have been just a shortcut. If I had gone on to delete the earlier save, I would have lost my work. Anyone else have this problem?

Sounds like you might need to trash the FCP Preferences.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
