  • Make it rain like a strip club…particle generator?

A buddy of mine operating in Vegas on the AE fringes as far as dipping his toe into the waters asked me tonight if I knew how to make money, falling (raining) from the ceiling in AE. I told him he should do a search for “how to make confetti” and that it would probably involve a particle generator and I would suppose he could swap an image source of money for whatever was being used as the confetti image source. Is this on the right track? I just getting into my AE generators now so I’m just theorizing. Maybe use those cards that AE has built in, particular?

I don’t have particular at home so I did this with the trial version (I apologize for the ‘X’). It could also be done with After Effects’ built-in Particle Playground, but the results aren’t quite as nice and the render time is higher (go figure).

This is just a particular effect applied with a custom particle. The custom particle is from a pre-comp I made of a one dollar bill that rotates on its X and Y axes to give it that ‘light as a feather’ floating look. The timing of the particles is set to Random in particular so that the particles aren’t all rotating identically.
