Leopard SCSI not supported
I have been informed by Ciprico technical support that Leopard does not support SCSU U160. That means that people who have invested in ultra160 and Ultra320 SCSI storage from Huge, Medea etc. should not upgrade to Leopard if they want to continue using their storage arrays. I can say from personal experience that I can copy files from my Huge MediaVaults but cannot record to them or modify them with the Apple Disk Utility. I will write to Apple to re-enable this technology and I hope that others will as well. I know that SATA, Firewire and Fiberchannel still work under Leopard but I am not thrilled at using $12,000 of storage as door stops.

Apple has been saying for some time now that SCSI was being phased out on their machines. Apple themselves have not supported SCSI in about two years now I believe.
Does Ciprico offer you some sort of a trade in allowance or can you change out the controller card on your unit for a Fibre controller?

Even people with the old Adaptec SCSI cards are able to use them with OSX 10.5. This is not an Apple problem, try reinstalling the Ciprico driver.

ATTO released 10.5 compatible drivers for the UL4D & UL5D I think the day leopard launched.

See, that’s what I don’t understand. If ATTO has released drivers, how does it not work?

I installed the new driver from ATTO right after installing Leopard. Ciprico says that the issue is with Leopard but I will re-install their drive firmware just to be sure. This is a real pain as updating the drive firmware requires using a modem program and a usb to serial port converter. My Rorke fiberchannel array updates the some way. I wish drive array manufacturers would come up with a better way, such as the USB update that Blackmagic uses on their Multibridge products.

Yes, the firmware update from Huge/Ciprico products on Mac can be frustrating. It’s best to use a PC, but not everyone has that option. The nice thing about their products is that once you get it to work, they have been rock solid (in my experience anyway).

Wondering if there’s any update to this situation with Ciprico MediaVault RAIDs and their failure to work with Leopard? Recently upgraded to Leopard without checking into thi first (doh!) and now my RAId is locked up. Can bring files off of it, but can’t add any or delete any… Not good! Anyone have any experience with this that might be helpful? Is my only choice to go back to Tiger? Did you ultimately get any satisfaction Chris? TIA for any help guys.

I just got the following information from a fellow who used to work for Ciprico. Hope this helps.
The Ciprico/Huge Media Vault product line was purchased by a company called One Stop Systems – http://www.onestopsystems.com <https://www.onestopsystems.com> . You should be able to reach them at (877) 438-2724. Dot Hill Systems only purchased Ciprico’s RAIDCore software so unfortunately we cannot provide much help with Media Vault issues. One Stop Systems has all of the Ciprico firmware release so they should be able to get you the code.
I used to work at Ciprico so I can tell you that your statements in your email are true, you do need to upgrade to the latest Media Vault firmware to run on Leopard.
