  V1U and 6.0.2

  Has anyone tested out the new V1 support in 6.0.2? I’m interested in capturing as ProRes and removing pulldown during capture. Right now I’m capturing as HDV 1080i60 and using compressor to do the transcode and pulldown removal.

  Is there a new easy setup or something specifically for the V1U? Or do you need to modify an easy setup to do the transcode to ProRes while removing pulldown?

  From Apple:
  Sony HVR-V1 HDV Tape-Based Camcorder Support
  You can capture 1080p24 footage using the 1080i60 Easy Setup, but your captured footage will retain 3:2 pull-down in this case.

  For transcoded capture of 1080p24 footage, 3:2 pull-down is removed during transcoding, resulting in footage stored in the 1080p24 Apple Intermediate Codec format or the 1080p24 Apple ProRes 422 codec format.

  Here are the recommended workflows for capturing from and outputting to the Sony HVR-V1 camcorder with Final Cut Pro 6.0.2:

  24p/60i on tape: Capture to the 24p Apple Intermediate Codec or Apple ProRes 422 codec, then output to the HVR-V1 camcorder in 24p/60i mode.

  I tried it on 2 clips last night and it seemed to work fine.

  I chose “HDV 1080p24” from the Easy Setup menu. Then, I manually changed the capture setting from “HDV” to “Apple Intermediate Codec.”

  I ran a 24pA tape from my V1U and it captured it as a 23.98 AIC file. I stepped through it and found no interlacing or split frames. So, apparently it dropped the extra frames AND converted it to AIC right over firewire. I’m very pleased!

  It sounds like you’re interested in the setup called “HDV – Apple ProRes 422 1080p24”

  I haven’t had a chance to test that one yet, so I can’t confirm that it works, but the other setup did a perfect job, so hopefully this one works the same.

  Awesome I’m glad to hear that worked for you. It’s nice when Apple decides to actually make our lives easier for once huh?

  Now is “HDV – Apple ProRes 422 1080p24” an actual new easy setup or would I just change the capture setting like you did to AIC?
