im using a HDR-HC1 to offload my the footage shot in 1080ihd. Im on a brand new imac using final cut pro 5. Im having issues capturing my footage in hdv and i am only able to capture in dv format at 720×480.

When i change the setting in FCP to the hdv 1280×720 or any of the HDV presets i am not able to offload the footage however in the log and capture window i am able to control the cam corder like stop, play, rewind, and but just no capture, no vid preview, and no sound. (and no im not on a pci vid card)

Has anyone else run into this problem and how did they fix…any suggestions would be great as i have an hd camera and want to keep the hdv in hdv and not down convert.

[sfera] “When i change the setting in FCP to the hdv 1280×720 or any of the HDV presets i am not able to offload the footage”

Short answer- you can’t do that via firewire.

Longer answer- If you want to cross convert HDV 1080 to 720, you need to use a deck with SDI (or an analog deck + an analog to SDI converter) and use a Kona 3 capture card. The Kona 3 is the only card for FCP that will cross convert between 1080 & 720 HD. Your footage will no longer be HDV, though. You can convert it to DVCPro HD, Apple Prores, or uncompressed.

As for why you can’t capture in 1080, you don’t give us enough information for that. Are you getting an error message? Are you sure that you shot HDV? Do you have the camera set correctly to output HDV?
