I m working on a number of projects shot on a Panasonic HD camera (P2 series). The material is on a hard drive in the native Panasonic folders (the stuff was shot straight to a hard drive) and I am using the Panasonic P2 import window in FCP 5.2 to convert to QT (DVCPRO HD 1080a24P).
Is there any way to work in an offline, low-res mode, and later re-convert/re-capture in full res? The only way I can see is converting the HD footage to SD, storing away the HD footage, editing in SD, and then reconnecting to tghe HD footage that was stored away. This doesn’t help me that much, because I still have to hang on to the full res HD footage while I edit in SD. The media manager doesn’t seem to help with this… Am I wrong?

    thanks,

You cannot import P2 as anything but the full resolution it was shot in. You’d have to import, then use the Media Manager to copy to a lower res format, then later try to reconnect to the full res versions.

This might be tricky…I’d test it. This is why I stick to editing at full resolution, but we are shooting and editing 720p, not 1080p.

Yeah, big drawback to the P2 workflow. They need to have an import option for importing at lower resolutions.
