    Here’s a quickie:

Will I sacrifice quality by capturing DVCPRO50 video through Firewire direct to the DVCPRO50 codec in FCP instead of 8 bit uncompressed via SDI through a KONA LH Card? I’m using a Panasonic AJ-SD93 deck.

The show I’m cutting will be quite graphics heavy, so an uncompressed timeline is a must. If I capture via FW to DVCPRO50 there shouldn’t be any noticeable hit on quality when uprezing to my uncomprsd 8 bit timeline, should there? You wouldn’t want to incorporate GFX into a DVCPRO50 sequence would you? This show eventually will be “broadcast”.

Thanks in advance for helping me keep my 1s and 0s in order!

From DVCPro50 you can go to 10b Unc. You will notice the difference of quality mostly if you will use effects and graphics. Also if you drop in your footage the Nattress “Chroma Smothing/Sharpening” your pictures will look much better.
If you end up in 10b Unc, don’t forget to caheck “Render in high precission YUB”.

Forgot to tell you, you can make thewhole editing in DVCPro so you will have more RT. Just before the final rendering/export change the codec. If you are in PAL-land, careful abaut the field order.
