Strobe effect is creating pixelized junk!

10 bit uncompressed sequence, 29.97
Kona 3everything looks great until I put “Strobe” on a clip. Then, no matter what I do, it looks like a 1/3 resolution clip? like a de-interlace filter that really did a poor job. It’s 35mm footage shot @ 30fps, so there’s no 3:2 involved. Every frame is a whole frame. I’ve tried switching Field Dominace…
I’ve used both versions of Strobe in FCP 6.
We need this Strobe effect for a project! HALP!

Seems to happen to ANY 720×486 footage. No matter what compressor.
So now what? Has anybody ever dealt with this with uncomrpessed footage? It seems Apple, once again, has forgotten to deal with 486 footage correctly.

ARGH!
ANY sequence that’s 29.97 is causing this problem. Including DV25, DV50, uncompressed…. A 23.98 sequence works.
We need this effect to work. By tonight. I can’t believe I assumed it would work and look ok. But it doesn’t even look OK

Do me a favor and look into your browser and tell me what your field dominance says for your clips, then check your field dominance of your timeline.

But the footage is progressive, right? Try changing a clip to ‘none’ then make a new sequence and change it’s setting to none, then put that one clip in there and see what happens.

1st thanks Jeremy for helping me out. I’m at a complete loss.
2nd: Negative. Still pixelates.
What’s also odd is every now and then it actually creates a jitter frame! It’s almost like FCP is assuming you have 30fps with 3:2, so it’s trying to strip a field and the 3:2 frames, but it’s completely missing the cadence. But even with a clip that HAS 3:2, Strobe still screws it up.
I’ve tried everything in 29.97. Uncompressed, DV50, ProRes, Animation codec. I’ve tried 30.0 fps sequences with conformed media.
Give it a whirl yourself. Just grab any 29.97 clip, and put Stobe on it.
We have an Avid upstairs which I’m going to have to us. (that’s what they did the offline edit on). It works fine with it’s Strobe. Now this is going to be a sad day 🙁

Excellent, glad you are up and running.
FCP6 handles interlacing way different than other versions.
Glad this worked for you and you didn’t have to go see the other NLE in the sky, I mean upstairs. 😀
